Senior Communications Officer, Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office

Brooks Jarosz is a communications manager and strategist focused on improving community engagement, building trust, and increasing recruitment. His 15+ years’ experience in journalism, television news, and digital media has brought a unique perspective and skillset to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office. As the Senior Communications Officer, Jarosz leads the Media Relations Unit, manages all internal and external communications, including public relations and marketing, and acts as the chief spokesperson.

A skilled writer, Jarosz creates informative, emotionally driven stories aimed at spotlighting people, initiatives, and events to grow engagement, spark interest, and promote the organization’s mission and core values. Jarosz oversees several projects at once, under tight deadlines. He’s able to respond immediately to critical incidents or crisis, coordinating staff, developing key messaging, and effectively communicating with executive leadership, key stakeholders, and the public. His journalism skills assist in streamlining complicated subject matter, while providing clarity, context, and perspective. Jarosz is a team player willing and ready to lead and motivate others.

Social media, streaming, and online content creation is essential in establishing an effective communications and marketing plan. Jarosz has extensive knowledge of evolving media as an investigative reporter, anchor, and producer. He spent the last six years at KTVU FOX 2 in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is comfortable and confident in front of the camera, or a live audience. He establishes trust and builds relationships quickly, to gather firsthand knowledge of high-profile situations. His experience in digital media helps position messaging toward key audiences and demographics.

Jarosz also currently serves as President of the SF/NorCal Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), leading a diverse team of media industry professionals. He’s a five-time Emmy recipient and an Edward R. Murrow award-winner.

A proud honors graduate from the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University, Jarosz is a Toledo, Ohio native and graduated from St. John’s Jesuit High School, where he first got interested in journalism, marketing, and television production. He loves rowing, music, food, wine, and travel.
