Editor, Off Camera

The San Francisco/Northern California Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is pleased to announce this year’s Governors’ Awards, which will be presented at the 48th Northern California Area Emmy Awards Gala in San Francisco on Saturday, June 8.

For 2019, the Governors’ Award, the highest award a local chapter can bestow, will recognize San Francisco State University’s Broadcast and Electronic Communications Department for its excellence and dedication to its students. Through the years, many San Francisco State students enrolled in the BECA program are working in television markets throughout the nation, including, of course, the Bay Area television market.

This year, the Governors’ Citation is being presented to Pamela Young, current Chapter vice president representing Hawaii.

Young is currently a producer/reporter at KHON 2 in Honolulu, after spending 26 years at KITV 4 (ABC Honolulu), she also worked for KPIX and KQED in San Francisco. She is a 12 time Emmy® Award recipient and is also a Peabody recipient. She is the producer and host of Mixed Plate, which is Hawaii’s longest running news feature series. She currently holds the position of NATAS VP-Hawaii and would like to continue to use her experience as a Governor.  She is also a 2004 inductee of the Silver Circle

And, finally, for 2019, the Governors’ Service Medallion will be presented to Mark Pearson,

He is a founding partner at ARC Law Group (www.arclg.com), a San Francisco-based law firm focused on counseling Creative, Talented and Entrepreneurial clients.  His primary practice areas involve forming business entities, counseling on trademark & copyright issues, and drafting contracts.

Along with his practice, Pearson also serves as the Legal Chair on the Board of Governors for the San Francisco/Northern California Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and as an Advisor Board Member for California Lawyers for the Arts Music Business Seminar.

Governors’ Award

The Governors’ Award is the highest Award a local chapter can bestow.

For recognition of achievements by individuals, organizations or companies which do not fall within the structure of the Chapter’s regular Area Awards.

Historically, Board of Governors Awards are for truly outstanding and unique accomplishments or for achievements of some duration and durability. For this award an Emmy® Statuette is given. There is the possibility of one award, more than one award, or no award.

This award can be given to an individual, a company or an organization for outstanding achievement in the arts, sciences or management of television which is either of a cumulative nature or so extraordinary and universal in nature as to be beyond the realm of the awards presented in the categories of achievement.

Members of the Board of Governors nominate, for consideration by the Board, the individuals, companies and/or organizations which they consider merit this highest award of the Chapter. Nominations must be submitted in writing in time to be considered at a Governors’ Meeting at least one month prior to the presentation of the awards. A five-sixths favorable vote of the returned ballots is required to present award.
