$21,000 in College Scholarships Available From Chapter

Your window to receive thousands of dollars from our chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences will end this month. You don’t even have to be a NATAS member, but you do need to be a college student. You could receive as much as $5,000 in the form of a scholarship. $21,000 in graduate and undergraduate scholarships are available.

BREAKING: Ken Wayne to Join KRON4 as Weeknight News Anchor 

“Good morning everybody.  I am very excited to announce that Ken Wayne will be joining our team as co-anchor of our weekday evening news, effective immediately.  Alongside Pam [Moore], he will co-anchor our 6p, 8p and 10p news.

Chapter Stations Receive 2018 Edward R. Murrow Honors

Several television stations in the Bay Area, northern California and Hawaii have received honors from the Radio Television Digital News Association’s 2018 regional Edward R. Murrow Awards.

From more than 4,400 entries, 785 regional Edward R. Murrow Awards in 16 categories this year recognize more than 307 local radio, television and digital news organizations across the country and around the world.

Russ Solomon, 92, Tower Records Founder

Last Interview, On Sacramento PBS Station KVIE

Sacramento born and raised, Russ Solomon changed the world of music as we know it. Solomon died March 4 while watching the 90th Annual Academy Awards. Solomon was the founder of the world-renowned record store chain Tower Records.

At home viewing the awards program, making comments about red carpet attire, the 92-year-old Solomon asked his wife to grab him another whiskey. When she returned with his drink, Solomon was dead from a heart attack.

Gold & Silver Circle Profiles: Rod Sherry

Rod Sherry was already an established television and radio newscaster in Los Angeles when he accepted an opportunity to relocate to the Bay Area to join San Francisco’s KPIX as its 11 p.m. anchor, in 1964. Throughout the rest of the 1960s and into the early 1970s, Sherry became one of the Bay Area’s preeminent newscasters, dominating the Bay Area airwaves along with the likes of Roger Grimsby at crosstown rival KGO-TV.

FREE Bay Area Movie Screenings for NATAS members. Usually, you may bring a guest.

Many screenings are previews of first-run movies, and include “Q&A” sessions with the director, producer and/or cast members of the film.
