Record $21,000 in College Scholarships Available This Year 

May 31 Application Deadline

Two new scholarships are being offered this year by The San Francisco/Northern California Chapter of The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

The $5,000 Louise Jorjorian Memorial Scholarship awards the best overall graduate or undergraduate student. All entrants will be considered for this top award.

The $2,000 Linda Giannecchini Professional Development Scholarship is designed for applicants who already work in the TV industry and are in pursuit of a formal undergraduate or graduate degree.

March 15 Deadline to Enter High School Student TV Awards 

The deadline to enter the Regional High School Student Television Awards for Excellence is almost here: March 15. All entries must have been transmitted within the eligibility period of March 1, 2017 to February 28, 2018. Applicants must be current enrolled as a full-time high school student as of the application deadline. Faculty involvement can only be advisory.

The nomination deadline is approaching for the Gold & Silver Circle Class of 2018. Nominations for this honor society will be accepted until Sunday, April 15. To nominate a candidate – even yourself! – peruse the information and fill out the application on the CIRCLES page of our site.

The 2018 Gold & Silver Circle Induction Luncheon is Saturday, October 20, 2018. We are returning to the same location as last year, the Park Central Hotel in San Francisco.

Sacramento Meteorologist Walks Child Through Fear of Shooting Threat

Nothing – more precious than our children. Sacramento ABC 10 Chief Meteorologist Monica Woods was at her desk in the newsroom February 19, 2018, when she got word of a shooting threat at McClatchy High School, the school her sophomore daughter attends. Following the horror, anger, and loss from the mass murder at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, people are understandably on edge.

Nominating Committee To Select Prospective Governors for Election

The time for electing new governors for the Board of Governors of our Chapter is right around the corner, in May. Before we have an election, however, a “Governor’s Nominating Committee” must be formed, by April 15. This committee consists of seven members. Only one of the members can be a current NATAS governor. The others must be current NATAS members.

Sacramento TV Editor Fought the “Good Fight”

A moment washes over this vast thing called life and in an instant — a brilliant piece of beauty is zapped from the earth. Sacramento TV Editor Chris Canote encapsulated that beauty. She enjoyed gardening and – always, and up until the very end — the vision of colorful flowers lit up her soul. A master gardener, Canote’s home reflected that expertise.
